Overview

Brahmatal Trek is considered as the ‘all in one package among a long list of trekking destinations across the country. Stretching to an expanse of 24 Km, the Brahmatal trek exposes you to some of the most magnificent Himalayan peaks such as Mt Chaukhamba, Mt Neelkanth, and Mt Hathi Ghoda among others.

The diversified beauty of this trek, from glorious mountains to snow-laden trails, high-altitude serene lakes, and lush green forests, makes Brahmatal quite mesmerizing.

For all snow fanatics who love to see sun rays illuminating the ivory surface, winters are the best time to do the Brahmatal Trek, more specifically the months of October,

November, December, and January.

The 6-day 5-night trek starts from Lohajung, which is about 300 km away from Dehradun. After an overnight stay followed by dinner at Lohajung, we will prepare for our journey ahead the next morning.

In this Brahmatal trek package, we make sure that the balance between fun and adventure is always maintained and hence our trek leader gives a briefing session at the start of every day. After which, we will begin our ascend towards the peak and will be rewarded by the scenic views of Kail Valley. By the time dusk starts to fall, we’d have reached our last stop for the day which is nestled calmly among the oak trees. We will set up camp at Bekaltal Lake and retire to bed for the night.

The next morning, we will proceed towards Brahmatal Lake which will take us almost 5 hours after which we will settle down to take a breather and set up camp at Brahamtal Lake where we will have dinner while the valleys of Nainital and Almora peek at us from the backdrop.

Finally, the day when we trek towards the Brahmatal summit and get to enjoy the most stunning view of the Himalayan peaks of the Garhwal region like Mt.Trishul and Mt Nanda Ghunti.

We will set up camp at the summit and spend a night under the starry skies, surrounded by mountains before finally descending to Lohajung, concluding our trek with dinner and overnight stay at Lohajung. The next day after our morning tea, we will drive towards Rishikesh and part ways with some fond memories and a smile on our faces.

Day 1: Drive From Rishikesh to Lohajung (260 Kms, 9 Hours Drive)

The group will assemble at the pickup point at 06:00 AM. Afterwards, we’ll head out for Lohajung.

En route, we will be passing through Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Karnaprayag.

Upon our arrival in Lohajung, we’ll check into our hotel.

Dinner will be served followed by an overnight stay.

Note: The Pickup point will be Rishikesh ISBT/ Tapovan Chowk.

Day 2: Trek from Lohajung to Bekaltal (4 Kilometers, 4 Hours)

After early morning breakfast and tea, a briefing session would be conducted by the trek leader sharing all the necessary details about the trekking trails.

Afterwards, we’ll start the trek to Bekaltal. En route, we’d get to witness the confluence of Kali and Pindari Rivers in Kali Valley.

The entire trail is adorned by oak forests and Bekaltal is nestled amidst the lush greenery. Upon our arrival at the campsite, we’ll spend some leisure time and indulge in some group bonding activities.

Dinner followed by an overnight stay at Bekaltal Campsite.

Day 3: Trek from Bekaltal to Brahmatal (7 Kilometers, 5 Hours)

After early morning tea and breakfast, we’ll start our trek towards Brahmatal Lake.

The trail is lined with enchanting forests that will lead us to the Lake. En route, we’d be traversing Telandi which is a vast green land that transforms into snowfields in winters. A series of ascends and descents will lead us to the majestic Brahmatal Lake.

Upon our arrival, we’ll check into our campsite which is in the vicinity of the Lake. We’ll
spend some time relaxing by the lakeside with scenic views of Nainital and Almora in the backdrop.

Dinner followed by an overnight stay at Brahmatal Campsite.

Day 4 : Trek to Brahmatal Summit (6 Kilometers, 5 Hours)

After early morning breakfast, we’ll head out for our trek to the Brahmatal summit which offers picturesque views of Himalayan peaks with Trishul and Nandaghunti being one of the most prominent peaks.

The entire trail is surrounded by the Garhwal Himalayas which makes the entire experience extremely breathtaking.

After spending some time at the campsite, marveling at the beauty of nature, we’ll trek down to the campsite.

Dinner followed by an overnight stay at Brahmatal Campsite.

Day 5: Back to Lohajung (7 Kilometers, 5 Hours)

After early morning tea and breakfast, we’ll check out of our campsite.

Afterwards, we’ll descend to Lohajung. At Malling, we will finally be out of the forests, and traces of civilization will start appearing.

Upon reaching Lohajung, we’ll check into our homestay.

Dinner followed by an overnight stay in Lohajung.

Day 6: Drive From Lohajung to Rishikesh (260 Kms, 9 Hours Drive)

After waking up to a glorious sunrise in the hills, we will freshen up and check out of our homestays.

Afterwards, we’ll drive towards Rishikesh. Upon arrival in Rishikesh, we’ll go our separate ways with fond memories of the trip.

INCLUSIONS

Accommodation: 2 Nights in a Hotel / Homestay on a triple/quad sharing basis. 3-night Tented accommodation on a triple-sharing basis.

Transportation: Surface transfer from Rishikesh – Lohajung – Rishikesh by Sumo /Bolero / Tempo Traveler (Depending on the number of travellers).

Meals: All Meals from (day 1 dinner to day 5 dinner) are included. We provide simple nutritious vegetarian food on all days of the trek.

Snacks: Morning / Evening Tea / Coffee with light snacks and soup while on the trek.

Camping logistics: Tent, Sleeping bags, mattresses, dining tent, Toilet tent.

Trek Leader Qualified and Experienced Trek leader and support staff.

Permits: All necessary fees and permits.

Trekking Equipment: Gaiters, Micro Spikes, and Rope if required.

Safety Equipment: Basic First Aid kit with Oximeter and Oxygen Cylinder.

Unscheduled delay due to landslide.

Cost Escalation due to “ Force Majeure and Evacuation charges”.

THINGS TO PACK

Backpack (Min 55 Ltrs with rain cover)

You must pick a good quality backpack with a comfortable fit and straps that won’t give you shoulder pain. You can check out your nearest Decathlon store for a good trekking backpack.

Day backpack (20 – 30 Ltrs):

When you head towards the summit, you are required to carry only a few necessary items and for that, you need a day backpack as you will leave your bigger one on the campsite.

Floaters or Sandals

Although the entire trek requires good quality shoes, you still need to let your feet breathe to avoid chafing and blisters. When you are at the camp, a good pair of sandals and floaters will help you to move freely.

Trekking Shoes

A good trekking shoe is comfortable, provides ankle support, and has a good grip as well. They shouldn’t be chunky, instead, they should be lightweight and
sturdy.

Quick Dry Tees

You must keep at least three pairs of quick dry tees so that you can
wash them in between stops for proper hygiene.

Track Pants

A good pair of track pants made of polyester will let your skin breathe. They’re lightweight, dry easily, and comfortable to walk around in. You can easily avoid
chafing and rashes by investing in a good pair of track pants.

Pair of Cotton Socks

Cotton socks are extremely comfortable to move around in and are lightweight as well which is why you can always count on a good pair of cotton socks while trekking. However, keep in mind to change them and avoid wearing them when they are wet.

Pair of Woolen Socks

A good pair of woollen socks, especially merino, are comfortable, limit odours and provide adequate insulation from the cold so you can wear them at night.

Poncho

A poncho is an evolved form of a raincoat that provides coverage to your body as well as your bag and ensures total water protection from rain.

Heavy Jacket

It’s emphasized that you need to carry proper layers so you can avoid getting cold which is why you need to carry a heavy jacket that you can put on over your
other clothes.

Pair of Thermal

Thermal is a piece of garment that helps in keeping your body warm in cold temperatures. It is a necessary item that you need when going on a high-altitude
trek.

Quick-dry towel

A quick-dry towel will help in maintaining proper hygiene. It must dry quickly because the wet fabric will only increase the chance of bacterial growth.

Windproof Jacket

As you ascend towards high altitude, you get hit by chilly winds and a windbreaker jacket is designed to resist them. They are lightweight and are made of synthetic fibres.

Woollen Cap

A woollen cap will help prevent cold when you ascend to high altitude.
You can also cover your ears to avoid any pain and discomfort you might face in them when going at high altitudes.

Gloves

Insulated gloves help in maintaining proper body heat in your hands and also
provide a better grasp on trekking poles

Sun Cap

A lightweight sun cap with side flaps is perfect to keep your head cool and
avoid sunburns on a sunny day.

Scarf or Balaclava

Along with sun rays and chilly winds, you also get hit by dirt and grime during treks which is why it’s important to carry a scarf or balaclava so you can cover your face when needed.

Lip Balm

Your lips can become chapped due to the harsh cold winds so it’s important
to keep them moisturized.

Cold Cream & Sun Screen (SPF 40+)

To avoid sunburns and chafing, you need to put on sunscreen as well as cold cream.

Antibacterial powder

To avoid rashes that develop from a bacterial infestation in your armpits and other parts of your body.

Water Bottle 1 Lt

Hydration is extremely important when it comes to trekking. Carrying a water bottle that you can refill with Himalayan water is a must.

Headlamp or torch

You can’t rely on moonlight when you are in the mountains. A torch or even a headlamp with a fresh pair of batteries is always a good idea to bring along.

Bag for all your Toiletries

A bag with all your essentials including napkins, toothpaste, sanitisers, paper soap, etc should be carried in a ziplock bag.

Personal Medications and basic medical kit

A few cuts and bruises are almost inevitable when you are on a trek so carrying a medical kit with bandages, Dettol, etc is necessary.

Dark Sunglasses / People who use spectacles (Use Photochromic glasses instead of contact lenses)

Photochromatic glasses are specs that are designed to transform into anti-glare shades depending upon exposure to the sun. They are good when it comes to eye protection but one can also opt for clip-on glasses etc.

Trekking Pole

The trekking pole assists in more than one way. It saves energy while also providing stability and helps you to maintain proper balance.

Identification proofs like Aadhar Card, and Drivers License.

Extra Polythene

In case your clothes get wet or your garments don’t dry, you can carry them in polythene. However, make sure that all the plastic that you are carrying into the
woods leaves with you. Don’t litter in the mountains.

This should be obvious. To make sure that you get to capture all the great moments from your trek. Make sure that you have enough storage and some extra batteries as well.
